Laura Nothern is an American artist based in Omaha, Nebraska.
Laura’s formal Art education began at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where she earned her BFA in 1994. After graduation, she continued to develop her paintings and started to sell works through galleries and to private collectors.
After a series of immersive life experiences, in 2011 she embarked on a study abroad at Studio Escalier, in France. Here she embraced the rigorous study of drawing & painting the figure from life in a contemporary classical manner. She also made extensive studies from original artworks in the Louvre. From classical sculpture to Baroque masterworks, she relished every moment of this practice.
Returning to the Pacific Northwest in 2015 she continued her practice and started a long-pose drawing group at Oregon Society of Artists and began to teach drawing & painting at Pacific Northwest College of Art in an Atelier-style program.
Laura moved back to Nebraska in 2018 to complete a private commission. She has since been teaching at institutions including the Joslyn Art Museum, the Kent Bellows Mentorship Program, and the Joslyn Castle in Omaha, NE.
Laura also gives online and in-person classes through her private studio focused on promoting a culture of ongoing practice, mindful observation, and classical, skill-based learning.
